Something Fun and Pretty to Serve at Your Holiday Party

For a sweet and festive winter party, whip up two kinds of cocoa: one dark, one pale, both irresistible.

Classic Hot Chocolate

7 c. milk

1 lb. bittersweet chocolate

1 c. heavy cream

1 c. sugar

2 tsp. vanilla extract

Winter-White Hot Chocolate

7 c. milk

1 lb. white chocolate

1 c. heavy cream

2 tsp. vanilla extract

For either variation, bring 7 cups of milk to a simmer in a small pan over low heat, then whisk in the remaining ingredients.

Set out a sweet garnish station: Let guests customize their own drinks with ginger candies, crushed Butterfingers, coconut flakes, mini marshmallows, sliced Kit Kats, and caramel syrup. Chocolate-dipped biscuit sticks and peppermint sticks function as stirrers. And for the adults? Decanters of dark rum and vanilla vodka.
