Vernal Equinox
March 19, 2014 | Ashley Brosnahan

Tomorrow March 20th at 12:57 p.m. we will hit the Vernal Equinox.  Basically the Equinoxes are the days of the year where we have the same amount of dark as we do day all over the world.  During the period of Equinox the tilt of the Earth is neither pointing toward or away from the sun.  Technically however, the tilt of the Earth relative to its elliptical plane is always 23.5 degrees.  So enough with this technical jargon, what does this mean for you and I?
Well it of course means that it is the first day of Spring!  Ah yes longer days, warmer temperatures and the emergence of beautiful Flora and Fauna.  If you are like me you will welcome this with open arms.  After a brutal winter I can't wait to get back out and do the fun things that come along with warmer temperatures and longer days.  This winter has been one of the snowiest I can remember.  I almost feel like I have been home schooling my children as they have missed more days of school than I care to count.
As the trees begin to blossom and the tulips and daffodils begin to poke their heads up from the ground I can't help but to feel happy.  Those grey windy cold days are something that sure won't be missed.

It's a time when everything here at the beach seems to come back to life.  All of my favorite restaurants and seasonal shops are opening their doors for business, and the beach is starting to call me to it.  It may not be warm enough for a dip in the Atlantic, but it is nice to cruise on down to the boardwalk in Bethany, kick off my shoes and rub my feet in the warming sand.  I am so looking forward to hopping on the boat and making my way over to Paradise Grill for a late evening burger, while watching the sun set over the Indian River Bay.

So here's to bidding adieu to winter 2013/2014 and welcoming whole heartedly the warmer longer days of the 2014 summer season.  As you all very well know life is better here in Bethany Beach!
