It’s that time of year again. The sun is shining, the temperature is up, and beach time is in full effect.
What do you enjoy doing on the beach? Laying in the sand catching some rays, or do you love to spend as much time in the water as you can?
One of our favorite family traditions is to do a walk on the beach. Though, I know and can hear your voices now! It IS hard to get everyone together. It can be enough work sometimes just getting all your beach gear up through the sand to your favorite spot. You might be thinking that’s enough walking…
Despite all the initial effort, walks on the beach with your family are something pretty special. I’ve found so many golden nuggets of joy from them and even some fun dolphin sightings! Plus, I’ve got five benefits for you that will make it seem like a productive outing, not a chore.
Here we go:
-
It promotes Joy – Webster’s definition of joy is “The emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires.” Imagine this; you and your family at Bethany Beach. Feet in sand, endless views of beautiful blue and white sky, the scent of salt water, and sunscreen along with passing sounds of seagulls. A family beach walk is a perfect way to promote joy. (And, if you live here – that’s something you can cultivate daily!)
-
Great family workout – Walking and running in the sand is a great workout disguised as beach fun. Also, the kids won’t realize you’re helping them burn off a little energy so they can get to bed earlier. Kids getting to bed earlier, means more relaxing time for you to go have a drink at the Bethany Boathouse, or get a little R&R too!
-
It’s so fun -Fun means something different to each of us. You may choose something more active, such as flying a kite, or racing against the shoreline, maybe even a little seashell collecting. A relaxing stroll in search of dolphins may be more of your thing. Whichever you choose, so much fun is to be had at Bethany Beach on your family walk. Maybe you’ll reward the family with a snack at Sunshine Crepes.
-
Gratitude – Gratitude has been known to be a promoter of joy. After the walk, maybe over dinner at home, or at your favorite Bethany Beach restaurant ask each family member what they loved most about the family beach walk. Then, sit back and take it all in. Listening to them express gratitude will help give each person a joy boost.
-
Memories – Engaging in conversation, enjoying time in nature with loved ones, taking in the smiles and joy of others on the walk is how memories are created. Family walks on the beach are sure to leave a loving lasting impression on all.
